Elwood’s BluesMobile (formerly House of Blues Radio Hour) is a weekly syndicated program hosted by Dan Aykroyd as Elwood Blues, his famous character from The Blues Brothers. Since 1993, Elwood has showcased Blues and Blues-based music such as R&B, Soul, and Rock & Roll with featured guests ranging from B.B. King and Eric Clapton to Jack White and Sharon Jones. In February 2012, the program was re-branded as Elwood’sBluesMobile, with all programming remaining unchanged.
Elwood tells the story…
In 1992, my partner Isaac Tigrett and I opened a club in Cambridge, Massachusetts called The House of Blues. We wanted to honor the great working musicians with a venue worthy of their efforts. Plus, we needed a cool place to hang out.
Harmonica master Charlie Musselwhite helped open the joint. Later, Charlie ran into his buddy, radio producer Ben Manilla, who said he was thinking of starting a syndicated Blues radio show. Manilla passed the secret initiation ritual, and together we conned CBS Radio into letting us have air time. Hey, we even wrote a book!
So many great years have gone by, and now we’re with United Stations Radio Networks. There are House of Blues clubs across North America, and we continue to bring quality American-style music to the airwaves.
TheBluesmobile.com is our first website set up exclusively for the Radio Hour. We’re proud of what we have done so far, but there’s always room for improvement. Tell me what you think, and what we can do to make it better!
The BluesMobile Radio Hour has twice won the Grand Award at the New York Festivals International Radio Broadcasting Awards! Each year they receive thousands of audio entries from across the globe. A handful are given a Gold Award. From the Gold Award winners, these audio professionals then select a Grand Award. So we can rightfully say that “Elwood’s BluesMobile” is one of the very best radio programs in the world!
And remember: we’re on a mission from God.
